529 Savings Programs

Kalamazoo College has partnered with Backpack to accept payments from 529 savings programs electronically. This platform is free to use, and payments are directly integrated with our Student Accounts Office, so we’re notified the moment your transfer is initiated. Click Backpack’s portal to get started.

Create a Backpack Account:

Before you begin this process, please have your Kalamazoo College student provide you with their Kalamazoo College Identification Number (KID). You will need this number to have your payment posted to their student account.

The Owner of the 529 Savings Plan should create the Backpack account, whenever possible. The 529 Savings Plan owner is typically a parent, guardian, or grandparent. https://www.backpackpay.com/universities/kalamazoo-college

Once the account is set up, the process is simple:

1. Link the 529 plan

2. Request a withdrawal (after any period)

3. Submit the payment electronically

Backpack replaces paper checks with secure electronic payments, allowing funds to post faster and more reliably to your student account. Click on image below for a video tutorial.
